Q: What length of tarpaulin 3 m wide will be required to make conical tent of height 8 metre and base radius 6 m assuming that the extra length of material that would be required for stitching margins and wastage in cutting is approximately 20 cm.

Solution :-

Given : Breadth of tarpaulin = 3 m

Find the length of the tarpaulin to make conical tent of height 8 m and base radius 6 m :

Slant height (l) = √(h² + r²)

= √(8² + 6²)

= √(64 + 36)

= √100 = 10

Here,

Area of tarpaulin = Curved surface area of tent

=> (Length × Breadth) = πrl

=> Length = (22 × 6 × 10)/(3 × 7) = 62.8

Total length = Length + Margin

= 62.8 + 0.2

= 63 m

Hence,

Length of tarpaulin = 63 m
