The regions of Thar, Cholistan and Baluchistan are extremely dry and arid. Due to their geographical location, they experience high temperatures and low water content in the soil. The livestock most suited to living in these regions are camels, goats and sheep.

Camels serve as the primary means of transport and also provide meat, milk and fur. Goats and sheep provide fur, which is processed to manufacture different types of clothing, and milk. These animals either store water in their body or require very little water for their survival.

The best livestock animals to be reared in the desert include goats, camels and some species of cattle that can withstand harsh environmental conditions exhibited in the desert. These animals have some adaptations to live in the desert like for example camels have humps that stores fat to be oxidized to provide energy for daily locomotion, goats have thin skins to withstand high temperatures in the desert, also camels have thin skins for the same.
