it was globally accepted as there was confusion regarding the placing of isotopes of an element. as before in Mendeleev's periodic table the elements were placed according to atomic masses and isotopes have the same properties but different atomic masses so there was confusion as to where the isotopes should be placed. these doubts are eliminated in the modern periodic table.
