British introduced important social reforms in the country. For example, the Bengal Sati Regulation Act was passed in 1829, declaring the practise of Sati as illegal. They also passed the Widow Remarriage Act in 1856. These reforms received mixed response from Indians.

Answer:
Because:
Explanation:
- The british took the Indian beliefs and practices as superstitious .
- The British also felt that the some of the Hindu practices violated with others like-the practice of Sati ,due to which many widows were forced to die.
- The British also wanted the Hindus to convert into Christianity ,that is why they allowed the Christian missionaries to work freely in their domain and even own land and property.
