The 'Curse of the Pharaoh' which was associated with king Tut's expiration stated that death, negative spirits, omens and misfortune would surround those who would bother or disturb the king in anyway, even after his death.

This also explains of how Egyptians considered their rulers and kings to be immortal and dignified even after the end of their lives.  

There have been instances where the curse was believed to materialize like, when the a cobra was killed at Howard Carter's canary, the howling of Carnarvon's dog and his sudden death. Ironically, the person who was the sole protagonist of the complete excavation, Howard Carter managed to live a happy life till a decade after the onset of investigation.
