what made the human beings to search for alternative for natural fibers ?

the nature gives a huge amount of choice of fibers for us....but there r some things in which these fibers r not enough to be used....like in mountain climbing,we can't use natural fibers...so humans discovered making their own fibers.nylon was the first fully man made chemical fiber...rayon was the first but it was made of wood pulp too so it was not completely man made.so for the need of elasticity,strength and better results we founded an alternative to these fibers.
