Answer:

The Lieutenant Governor was forced to drop the case against Gandhiji because the lawyers had told Gandhiji that they would follow him into jail. So the Lieutenant Governor wrote to the Magistrate ordering him to drop the case against Gandhiji.

The lieutenant governor dropped the case against Mahatma Gandhi because of the following reasons:-

  • As we know Mahatma Gandhi was a very famous personality and had a major role to play in India's freedom struggle against the British oppressive rule.
  • When Mahatma Gandhi was called for being arrested the Lieutenant governor had to drop the charges against him.
  • Gandhiji had so many ardent followers and he was such an honest man that even the lawyers wanted to get into jail if Gandhiji was arrested.
  • This was the reason why the lieutenant governor had to drop all the charges against Mahatma Gandhi and release him.
