First of all the difference between various colonies can be seen in terms of geography. The geography of the Middle Colonies is like having rivers, plains, rich soil, mountains, harbors, bays, hills and a medium climate. The geography of the New England colonies includes rugged coastline with bays, large trees, rocky soil, mountains, snowy winters etc. Curving coastline with bays and harbors, Piedmont, long growing season, coastal plains, hot humid summers, are some of the characteristics of the Southern colonies. Another difference can be seen in terms of the economy. The economy of the Middle colonies is based on farms growing grains, ports for fishing, and trade, and mill-houses and ironwork. Shipbuilding, fishing, trading and wildlife that provide furs for trading etc. are the basis of New Eng-land Colonies. The economy of the Southern colonies is somehow different from the two, as large plantations and small farms, rice, indigo, tobacco, cotton are produced by slaves here.
