The main reason for people to drift away from Brahminism was the political uprising seen in South India. The Dravidian movement started by Tamil leaders like Periyar Ramasamy and the Justice party paved way for a reservation to the marginalized sections of the Society.  

The people were fed with the Ideals of liberating themselves from the bonds of cast imperialism imposed by the so-called upper-class people.

People were exposed to ideas like education, self-respect, and equality which made them essentially to liberate themselves from the hands of Brahmins.
