The Indian Rebellion of 1857 is also called the Indian Mutiny, the SepoyMutiny, North India's First War of Independence or North India's firststruggle for independence. It began on 10 May 1857 at Meerut, as a mutiny of sepoys of the British East India Company's army.

Hey there! here is ur answer:-

|CAUSES OF REVOLT|

The revolt of 1857 was an outcome of various factors. Let's see them.

#1- Political issue- the expansionist policies of the British mafe all thE Indian rulers suspicious of their intentions.

#2- Economic causes- The drain of wealth and extremely slow pace of industrialisation added to the economic grivances of the people.

#3- Military Causes- The Indian sepoys comprised a major chunk of the british army. But they had various grievances against the british. They were often humiliated by the British Officers.

#4- Immediate Cause- In 1856 the enfield rifle was introduced in the army. The cartridges of this rifle were smeared with grease. The sepoys believed that the grease was made from thecfat of animals which would heart the riligious sentiments of both Hindus and Muslims.

#5- Riligious Causes- Measures such as aboliation of sati and legalistaion of widow remarriage made the orthodox Hindus extremely restless. They viewed this as threat to their riligion.
