Hi mate

Question:

What makes a (s) different from (z)?

Answer:

  • “s” is used in British English while “z” is used in American English.

  • The S sound is a unvoiced or voiceless sound whereas, The Z sound is a voiced .

  • Because when we make a sound Z our vocal cords vibrate whereas for S it don't.

  • Say “S when the word ends in a voiceless sound like a p, t, k, f, or voiceless th sound.

  • Say “Z when the word ends in a vowel or other voiced sound like the m, n, ng, l, b, d, g, v, voiced th, or r sound.
