The Ganges Basin with its fertile soil is instrumental to the agricultural economies of India and Bangladesh. The Ganges and its tributaries provide a perennial source of irrigation to a large area. Chief crops cultivated in the area include rice, sugarcane, lentils, oil seeds, potatoes, and wheat. Along the banks of the river, the presence of swamps and lakes provide a rich growing area for crops such as legumes, chillies, mustard, sesame, sugarcane, and jute. There are also many fishing opportunities to many along the river.

Yes, Bihar is the most thickly populated state in India and there are several factors adding to the reason from patriarchy to government limited importance to that particular area.

Explanation:

  • The population in Bihar is the fertile area as the lifeline Ganga and its tributaries flow through the very state, it makes the soil enough fertile and sustainable to attract inhabitants even from distant so that could benefit from the agricultural activities. It also provides higher water sources.
  • Patriarchy is one of the most suitable reasons that has supported population growth in the state because cases were being reportedly analyzed of women being forced to give birth until the family gets a son.
  • There is high illiteracy, lack of family planning and poverty prevailing in the state, the cause of which can be traced back to immigration and government negligence.
