Hi,

1. no other light aircraft provides the “magic carpet” experience of flying an open cockpit gyro because there is no wing to obstruct your view. Combine that with the ability to fly a slow airspeed and you will find that gyrocopters are fun to fly.

2.Because of high wing loading gyros handle turbulence much better than similar fixed wing light airplanes. That means the middle of the day ride will be pretty smooth in a gyro compared to a fixed wing plane, some of which will beat you to death in mid-day turbulence.

3.Gyros have a speed range from about 35mph to 105mph. This is a wider speed range than most small fixed wing planes.

Gyros cannot stall / spin like a fixed wing aircraft. There are, however, offsetting negatives and the common line, “gyroplanes are very safe because they cannot stall” should be taken with skepticism.

4.Gyros can land in a very small space with much less training than a fixed wing bush plane. This makes flying lower safely possible. Generally flying low is far more interesting than flying high because you see more detail.

4. Keep in mind that flying extremely low is also extremely dangerous and requires 100% of your attention.

5.Gyros are incredibly maneuverable and can be turned around on a dime with no risk of a stall spin.

6.Gyros take up little room and cost less to store.

7.Gyros can be transported easily on a trailer.

Modern European style gyros with Rotax engines (made for airplanes) are easy to maintain.

Gyros are easy to build relative to an airplane because it is mostly assembly.

A combination of points above make gyrocopters affordable to fly.

8.Gyrocopters are simple to fly but they have important differences from airplanes.

I believe modern European-style gyrocopters are safe if flown intelligently after receiving the proper training. They are simple, stable machines. The rotors do not fly off unless they hit something big and there is absolutely no excuse for hitting anything at high speed.

Modern gyros are inexpensive relative to what they are. You can get into a good open cockpit trainer for ~65k U.S. This may seem expensive until you check into the price of a new fixed wing aircraft. Some good single seat gyros are much less than that but you may be dealing with a 2-stroke engine and a less polished appearance

Hope it helps..

Hey user

Gyroplanes are as safe as you want to make them. With the proper training, you'll learn to avoid the mistakes others have made. If you do good preflight inspections and keep good presence of mind, flying gyroplanes is considerably safer than driving cars, and all of us do that.

Besides nothing beats the thrill and fun of flying a gyro!

Flying a gyroplane is primarily a sport, something to have a good time doing and share the experiences with a group of others who enjoy the same sport.

However, depending on where you live, you might be able to make movies with them, chasing the bad guys as James Bond or the Road Warrior's friend did or maybe to fly the range checking cattle or sheep or whatever critters you have on your ranch. They have also been used in several research / scientific ventures.
