We have to find the mass of lead theoretically which is obtained from 15kg of Galena ore that is 72% PbS.
To find : mass of PbS ore = 72% of 15 kg
= 72 × 15/100
= 1080/100 = 10.8 Kg
now mass of lead = mass of PbS × fraction amount of Pb in PbS.
= 10.8 kg × [atomic mass of Pb/molecular mass of PbS ]
atomic mass of Pb = 207.2 u
molecular mass of PbS = 239.3 u
= 10.8 kg × [207.2 u/239.3 u]
= 10.8 × 207.2/239.3
= 9.35 kg
Therefore, theoretically the mass of lead is 9.35 kg in the 15 kg Galena that is 72% of PbS.
