Development for one may not be development for other. The following points support the statement:

a. The developmental goals are the desires of the people to improve their standard in all ways. These goals are different for different classes of people. What is a necessity for someone may be luxury for another? For example, a two-wheeler which is very much needed for a sales representative may be a luxury for a newspaper boy.

b. The construction of dams and other multipurpose river valley projects might be a great investment for the Government. But it means displacement and socio-economic issues for the tribes residing in those areas.

c. The construction of a dam may be welcomed by some people of an area as it will help in solving drinking water scarcity and irrigation of land. But other people may be badly affected by this project. It will uproot them from their habitat, submerge natural vegetation and agricultural lands and people may loose their source of livelihood.
