Excretion = removal of metabolic waste products from the body.

How urine is formed = active transport forces small, soluble molecules (water, glucose and ions) from the glomerulus into the Bowman's capsule. In the proximal convoluted tubule, all of the glucose and some ions are reabsorbed back into the blood via diffusion. In the loop of Henle, some water is reabsorbed into the blood by diffusion. In the distal convoluted tubule, more water and more ions are reabsorbed into the blood. Finally, in the collecting duct, even more water is reabsorbed into the blood. This urine now contains urea, water and small amounts of ions such as salt, and glucose if the person is diabetic. The urine is then transported to the bladder.
