The League of Nations, the predecessor to today's United nations is widely accepted as a failure which lead the eventual World War II.
Today more than 70 years after the war, there are numerous things the League of Nations could have done better to prevent the war. For example:
1. Their was an appeasement policy towards Germany. It was only after the first world war that the European seriously looked at Russia as a threat. Since no one knew about Hitler before, they all believed that a strong Germany would be a bulwark against a Russian Threat. In all this time, Germany was able to recoup it's lost economic and military threat.
2. For the League of Nations to work, it needed all parties to work together, but this never happened in reality. Russia and the West never recovered from a loss of trust which culminated into various problems
