The reign of Robespierre Maximilien was described as the ‘reign of terror’ due to the following reasons:
•The use of monsieur(sir) and madame(madam) was abandoned and instead were replaced by the words ctyon and ctyonne
•The citizens who spoke against the government or were anyway related in affairs against government were imprisoned, trailed and guillotined. Even the members of his own party were not spared
•All churches were converted into governmental buildings and offices
•The use of meat loaf was minimised.
•Additional Info:
Robespierre was a French lawyer and politician
He was a part of the Jacobin club
It is ironical that in the end he himself was executed by a guillotine.
