The message that the poem conveys is that one should judge for themselves whom they are to listen to. The nightingale wasted its talents by listening to the frog who was incompetent to offer a qualified opinion. It is characters like these who misguide innocent and ignorant people and take advantage of their naivety. One has to do things in life with a fair bit of common sense and not depend on others for directions.
