Answer:

A young soldier sleeps by the side of a valley

with an open mouth and a smile on his lips. At first sight, it appears as if he

is fast asleep. Even the scorching sunrays and the humming insects cannot

disturb him. However, on watching him closely, one can see that there are two

red holes on the soldier’s side. After having been shot at by the war, it is

revealed that the soldier’s sleep is eternal. In other words, he has lost his

life in a war.

Through the poem, the poet tries to convey the message that a war does not bring anyone peace. It only causes tragedy and loss of lives. Anti-war scenarios are far more peaceful with very less or no casualties. The world would be a far better place if there are no wars.

Answer:

"Asleep in the Valley" is a poem by French poet Arthur Rimbaud that was first published in 1870. "Asleep in the Valley" is a powerful anti-war poem that emphasizes the value of life and the tragic consequences of conflict.

Explanation:

The "Asleep in the Valley" poem describes a soldier who has died while sleeping in a beautiful valley surrounded by nature. Through the poem, Rimbaud wants to convey a sense of irony and disillusionment with the idea of war and patriotism.

The soldier in the poem is depicted as a victim of war, one who has lost his life for a cause that ultimately means nothing. The peacefulness of the natural surroundings only serves to highlight the senselessness of war and the tragic waste of human life that it causes.

Furthermore, the poem suggests that the true beauty and value of life lie in nature and the simple pleasures of existence. By contrasting the soldier's death with the natural surroundings of the valley, Rimbaud emphasizes the importance of appreciating the natural world and living in harmony with it.
