The British used many methods to expand area under indigo cultivation

Such as

1. ryotwari system- In which the revenue was directly collected from the ryot or the cultivator . But the tax wass too high 55% half of total produce

2 . Ijaradari system- in which the revenue was collected from the planter (higher rank than peasant) On it the British inspected,measured the land and the records of the different groups were preserved by the British.

3Ryot system-In this the planter had to enter in to an agreement with the peasant and the peasant had to commit to grow indigo on atleast 25%of the land under him once the indigo crop was harvested and delivered a new loan was given to the peasant

4.Nij system-In which the planters owned land for the cultivation of indigo and even owned their own tools and carts and hired labours on daily wages to transport indigo.
