Peterloo 1819—wasn't a revolt but a peaceful demonstration asking politely for representation; they had no vote but were paying taxes to cover the costs of defending America that the Americans had welched out of paying. They still sent in men on horseback with sabres. At least 18 murdered and many hundreds injured. two hundred years ago today.

Monmouth 1839—wasn't really a revolt. They shot them.

Blackburn 1878—a riot. Brought in my son-in-law’s ancestor (and others) in uniform to threaten my ancestors and negotiated a deal. some sent to Australia.

Orgreave 1984—government trap. Copied Peterloo but with truncheons and made false claims of riot to get court orders to stop picketing. Police found to have acted illegally and £0.5m paid out from public funds. BBC broadcast police claims knowing them to be false
