what might be the thoughts that the giant might have had when the little boy hugged him after which he let the children play in his garden

The giant was very big and dangerous as assumed by the children. But when the little boy hugged him to show his love for the giant , the giant in return also had love and affection in his heart for the little boy and so also let the boy sit upon his shoulders.
