• Without communication one would function solely as an individual, because communication is needed in order for interaction between people. Everything would be done extremely inefficiently, because of the lack of sharing of thoughts.

• Unlike other animals, humans were not born with instincts, we rely on others to see how to live. Without communication one could only watch how other live. Without any guidance one would easily make mistakes and survival would be very difficult.

• Communication is a necessity in every society and in order to understand and appreciate the functions of communication it is important for one to study the subject. In today’s world communication between people is not just limited within ones own culture or region, making the study of communication even more vital.
