  • Todd borrowed $ 1  from the narrator. He began to think that he also might have borrowed such dollars and could have forgotten about them altogether, just as Todd had forgotten the dollars. So he wanted to start a "return to honesty" movement so that such lost dollars could be returned to their legitimate owners.
  • This plan shows that the author's personality initially manifests himself as a friendly person who can move his life forward with the help of humor. But as the story goes on, the author seems quite ironic about Todd's poor memory of the lost dollar. He says  he will never have a grudge against him beyond the dollar, but his thoughts wander in  his dollar every time they meet.
