let the no. be à
x/y-a=y/x
-a=y/x-x/y
-a=y²-x²/xy
a=x²-y²/xy

Let the number be 'a'

What must be subtracted from x/y to get y/x?

'a' must be subtracted from x/y to get y/x,

x/y - a = y/x

a = x/y-y/x

a = (x²-y²)/xy

Therefore,

(x²-y²)/xy must be subtracted from x/y to get y/x.

Hope it helps....
