The Kacharis were known as Dimasas to the Manipuris.


After the Dimasas made made Khaspur their permanent base, they established matrimonial ties with Manipuris. The Dimasa Kachari Kingdom was one of the powerful kingdoms in India. The kingdom was located in Assam with Kachamari as its first capital. Kachamari was situated on the banks of the river Daiyang in Golaghat district of Assam.

Actually Dimasas kichari kingdom was the quite powerful kingdom in their era at the sub-continent. Kacharis made the connection with Manipuris socially. Although the kacharis  Dimasa origin is not known exactly but some of the people believe that they came from Kamarupa kingdom in the ancient time. Then after reaching at brahmaputra they split and only one group of people succeeded to cross the northern bank of the river. Only people crossing the river was named as Dimasa which actually means the sons of river
