16+16-6=26

26+26-(6*2)=40

40+40-(6*3)=62

Let the number added be x

therefore,

(16+x) : (26+x) = (26+x) : (40+x)

=(16+x)×(40+x)= (26+x)×(26+x)

=x2+ 56 x +640 = x2+52x+676

=9
