Answer:

x=5

Step-by-step explanation:

first we can take 9:6 and 2:3 as (9+x):(16+x)=2:3

=9+×/16+x × 2/3

2(16+x)=3(9+x)

32+3x=27+2x

we have to find 2:3 so we can add both the x numbers:-

I.e. x=5

Let the number be x.

9:16 = 9/16

2:3 = 2/3

  1. According to condition,

(9+x)/(16+x) = 2/3

or, 3(9+x) = 2(16+x)

or, 27+3x = 32+2x

or, 3x-2x = 32-27

or, x = 5

Hence, the number to be added to each term of the ratio 9:16 to make the ratio 2:3 is 5.

Verify-

(9+x)/(16+x) = 2/3

or, (9+5)/(16+5) = 2/3

or, 14/21 = 2/3

or, 2/3 = 2/3 (14/21 ÷ 7/7 = 2/3)

Hence, L.H.S = R.H.S.
