Original ratio = 17 : 33

New ratio = 7 : 15

Let the number to be subtracted = a

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

According to the question:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

\rm\longrightarrow \dfrac{17-a}{33-a} = \dfrac{7}{15}

\rm\longrightarrow  15(17-a)=7(33-a)

\rm\longrightarrow 255-15a = 231-7a

\rm\longrightarrow 255-231=15a-7a

\rm\longrightarrow 24=8a

\rm\longrightarrow \dfrac{24}{8}=a

\rm\longrightarrow 3  = a

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3 be subtracted from each term of the ratio 17 : 33 to get the ratio 7 : 15.

More:

Ratio refers to the relation between two quantities. We use ratio to compare two or more quantities.

Convert ratio into fractions:

Add up the quantities and use the sum as denominator.

ex: 4 and 2, 4 + 2 = 6

Now, show the numbers as a fraction of the sum: 4/6 = 2/3 and 2/6 = 1/3

Question ::-

What number must be subtracted from each term of the ratio 17 : 33 so that the ratio becomes 7:15?

Given ::-

  • given ratio = 17:13

  • After , subtracting a no. ratio becomes = 7:15

To find ::-

  • Find the number ?

Solution ::-

Let the number be x

A.T.Q ::-

➠ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \dfrac{17 - x}{33 - x}  =  \dfrac{7}{15}

➠ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  15(17 - x)= 7(33 - x)

➠ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  255 - 15x=231 - 7x

➠ \:  \:  \:  \: 255 - 231 = 15x - 7x

➠ \:  \:  \:  \: 24 = 8x

➠ \:  \:  \:  \:  \dfrac{24}{8}  = x

➠ \:  \:  \:  \: 3 = x

Hence , number is 3

3 will be subtracted from 17:13 to form 7:15
