QUESTION:

what number must be subtracted from each Tom of the ratio 15 : 33 e so that the ratio becomes 2 : 5????

ANSWER:

Let the rational between the term of ratio be x.

Thus the numbers are 15x and 33x

Let the number n to be subtracted from both the number of ratio.

After subtracting n the numbers will be 15x - n and 33x - n and their ratio 2 : Accordingly

15x - n / 33x - n = 2/5

Cross multiplication

15 (17x - n) = 7 ( 33x - n)

255x - 15n = 231x - 7n

255x - 231x = 15n - 7n

24x = 8n

n= 24x/8

n = 3x

Thus 3x to be subtracted from each number.

Answer the value 3x to be subtracted from each number, in which x can be any integer.

On subtracting 3x the number will be 17x - 3x = 14x and 33x - 3x = 30x

Their ratio 14x/30x = 14/30 or 7/15

It means answer is correct
