what number should be substracted from 16462 to get the perfect square also,find its square root?

When we find the square root of 1642 by long division method we get 40 as quotient and 462 as remainder. It shows that 40^2 is less than 16462 by 462.

this means if we subtract the remainder from 16000 we get a perfect square number. Therefore the required number is

16462-16000= 462

square root of 16000 is 40.
