Let the number = x
if x is increased by 14% = 855
=> x + ( x + 14 )/100 = 855
=> ( 100x + x + 14 )/100 = 855
=> 101x + 14 = 85500
=> 101x = 85500 - 14
=> 101x = 85486
=> x = 85486/101
=>x = 846.39
Therefore ,
Required number = x = 846.39
