The sepoys had objections to the new cartridges that they were asked to use for the following reasons :

1. The new cartridges that were to be used by the sepoys were reported of being greased with the fat of cows and pigs.

2.Both Hindus and Muslim sepoys did not favour this and were offended with the introduction of these cartridges.

3. Sepoys had to bite the cartridges in order to load them into the rifles and this was against their religious belief.

4. The Sepoys felt that the British were trying to insult their religion and bring them down and hence they refused to use the cartridges
