(i) He found out that most space in an atom is empty as most of the alpha particles went straight through the gold foil without the path getting afftected.

(ii) He found our nucleus was positively charged as he said that protons (which are positively charged) are present in the nucleus.

Hope it helps you!

Answer:

(i) Most of the space in atom is empty because most of the alpha particles passed through the gold foil without getting deflected.

(ii) Very few alpha particles 1 in 20,000 were deflected back in very small angles. Particles were appeared to rebound due to positively charged nucleus.
