Photosynthesis is usually represented by the equation 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + light --> C6H12O6 + 6 O2. During this process, organisms such as plants go through the light-dependent and light-independent reactions to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugars and oxygen.

Photosynthesis:

\boxed{6CO_{2}+12H_{2}O \underset{Chlorophyll}{\xrightarrow{\text{Sunlight}}} C_{6}H_{12}O_{6}+6H_{2}O+2O_{2}\uparrow}

Here,

CO₂ = Carbon Dioxide

H₂O = Water

C₆H₁₂O₆ = Glucose

O₂ = Oxygen

  • Photosynthesis: It is a mode of nutrition in plants i.e. autotrophic mode of nutrition. The green plants synthesis their own foods in presence of sunlight. The raw material for this process is 'Carbon Dioxide(CO₂)' and 'Water(H₂O)'. The product of this process is Glucose and Oxygen.
  • The Chloroplasts as the site of photosynthesis in the green plants. Leaves have these green colour organelles. They contain green a pigment called 'chlorophyll'.

The events in the photosynthesis

  1. Absorption - The light is absorbed by chlorophyll.
  2. Conversion - The light is converted into chemical energy. The splitting of water molecules into Oxygen and Hydrogen.
  3. Reduction - The reduction of Carbon dioxide to carbohydrates.
