The other extraordinary things that happened at the inn was the behaviour of Mrs. Hall’s furniture. The landlord and his wife found that the scientist wasn't in his room and took the opportunity of investigating it. They found his bedclothes cold, his usual clothes and hat lying about the room. Suddenly she heard a sniff close to her ears and the hat flew into her face. The bedroom chair came to life and charged at her legs. Then it pushed Mr. and Mrs. Hall out of the room and locked the door.
