The earth provides centripetal force to the moon so it rotates around earth.But if it stops rotating , centripetal force would not be there so it will move tangentially away from the earth.

The moon revolves around the earth while at the same time, it also orbits the sun. If the moon will stop revolving around earth, it will form its own free orbit around the sun and will start orbiting the sun instead.
