2) The fall of the jacobin government allowed the wealthier middle class two seize power. Two legislative councils were elected, who then appointed a directory, an executive made of 5 members. Directors often clash with the legislative councils and latter sought to dismiss them.

3) Political instability of the directory paved the way for rise of Napoleon Bonaparte.
