Like PERIODic table.). All of the elements in a period have the same number of atomic orbitals. For example, every element in the top row (the first period) has one orbital for its electrons. All of the elements in the second row (the second period) have two orbitals for their electrons.

All periods have the following similar features in a periodic table :
- A period in the periodic table is a row of chemical elements.
- The shell of an atom that contains the valence (last) electrons is called the valence shell.
- All the elements in a period of a periodic table have the same number of filled shells and hence also the valence shell.
- Each next element in a period has one more proton and is less metallic than its predecessor.
- Arranged this way, elements in the same group (column) have similar chemical and physical properties, reflecting the periodic law.
- For example, the halogens lie in the second-to-last group (group 17) and share similar properties, such as high reactivity and the tendency to gain one electron to arrive at a noble-gas electronic configuration.
- As of 2022, a total of 118 elements have been discovered and confirmed.
Thus, the above are the similar features of elements in the periods.
