What points should be kept in mind while dividing(classifying) history
Answers
Answer:
as the broad subject of history is divided broadly as:
Ancient
Medieval
Modern
Indian History is also classified into three categories with same names.
The division of Indian History, as that matter the whole history, is to make it easier to focus and understand it.
Now to how Indian History is classified:
Ancient India:
Ancient Indian history is considered to start with the Pre-historic period and continue till the rise of influence of Islam in India which was around late 7th century CE to early 8th century CE.
Later came the medieval period. The end of Medieval India and the start of Modern India is slightly varying
Medieval India:
While in the west, fall of Roman Empire in 4th century CE marked the start of Medieval age, in India, Medieval age started with the rise of Islamic influence. Late 7th century saw the attacks of Islamic invasions from the west. This led to the rise of Islamic influence in India and eventually gave rise to Delhi Sultanate in the north in 13th century, which was preceded by Kannauj.
While this was the scene in the north, south saw the rise and fall of Rashtrakutas, Kakatiyas, Vijayanagara, Cholas etc.
Now here is a bit of a tricky part. Some sources include Mughals in the late Medieval period, which would make the Maratha empire a Medieval kingdom too.
Modern India:
While some regard Mughals as the late Medieval emperors, there are also sources which regard the Mughal era as the “early modern period”
It may be divided into two periods: The 'early medieval period' which lasted from the 6th to the 13th century and the 'late medieval period' which lasted from the 13th to the 16th century, ending with the start of the Mughal Empire in 1526. The Mughal era, from the 16th century to the 18th century, is often referred to as the early modern period,[3] but is sometimes also included in the 'late medieval' period.
