Aurangzeb adopted the policy of conquests and annexation towards the Marathas.

Aurangzeb was concerned over the growing power of Marathas in Deccan. So after the conquest of Golkanda and Bijapur, he turned towards Marathas. He fought for more than 20 years with Marathas but could not successfully crushed them. After his death, Marathas regained their control over the territories and forts conquered by Aurangzeb.
