Following are the precautions one should take while measuring rainfall by using rain gauge - 

1. The rain gauge must not be placed under the trees or buildings because this may lead to collection of water from the dripping leaves or walls into the gauge, thus, inaccurate readings!!!

2. The rain gauge must be kept away from any interference to avoid the risk of spilling of water

3. Round gauges should be preferred to Wedge shaped gauges for accurate readings!
