Thunderstorm/Lightning precautionary measures: Get inside as quickly as possible and close your windows and doors when you hear thunder as it means lightning is close enough to strike. Thunderstorm/Lightning precautionary measures:

Stay inside for 30 minutes after hearing the last sound of thunder.

Avoid open areas like hilltops, fields and beaches. Keep moving towards a safe shelter(strong building) immediately

Stay away from loose hanging power lines, tractors and from equipment, motor cycle, bicycle etc

Stay away from open fields, under trees, water bodies. Water is an excellent conductor of electricity, meaning that it can travel far.

Tents and pavilions are not good options.

While being in an enclosed car is not as safe as being inside a building,it is a safer option than staying outside. Reason is the metal shell of car disperses the lightning to the ground.

Common misconception is that thunderstorms have to be nearby for lightning to be a danger. Lightning can strike very far from a thunderstorm.
