Ulysses restrained himself because if he killed the cyclop all them would perish. Because none but the monster only could remove the stone which he had placed to gaurd the entrance

In the story, "Ulysses And The Cyclops" Ulysses was prevented from attacking the Cyclops with his sword because the Cyclops was much larger and more powerful than he was.

  • He also did not have any weapons powerful enough to take down the giant. Even if he managed to attack the Cyclops, it would likely prove ineffective and put him in grave danger. Ulysses instead decided to use his wit and intelligence to devise a plan to help himself and his men escape the Cyclops' cave alive.
  • He was afraid of being crushed by the monster, so he opted for a different approach trickery. Ulysses used his wit and quick thinking to blind the Cyclops and safe escape.
