The usual upright position of the epiglottis allows air to flow into the lungs and the larynx. When you swallow, the epiglottis flattens backward to cover the entrance to your larynx and prevent food from entering the lungs and windpipe..

Answer:Epiglottis prevent the entry of food into the glottis by opening the wind pipe during swallowing or by closing it
Epiglottis is a tissue which acts as a valve that diverts air to lungs and food to intestine. While the function of glottis is to make several voicing sounds by adjusting the size of the glottal opening.
Epiglottis prevents food or liquids from entering the trachea (windpipe).
It maintains the upward position while we breath. When we swallow the food, it folds down and closes the trachea. Thus food is directed into esophagus
Glottis is an opening between the folds of vocal chord. When trachea is closed, passage to the vocal chord is closed. Individual closing of glottis does not take place while swallowing
