First of all, Einstein did not receive a Nobel prize for his 1905 Theory of Special Relativity or his 1915 Theory of General Relativity because at that time the Nobel committee did not consider them provable. It had nothing to do with the fact that he was Jewish.

At first, when Einstein was working as a patent clerk and not even a scientist, he had trouble getting anyone to take his 1905 Theory of Special Relativity seriously. His ideas seemed very bizarre and unbelievable, unlike anything the other theoretical physicists had brought forth.

After much time had past, the renowned German theoretical physicist, Max Planck, ran across and read Einstein’s paper. Planck immediately knew that Einstein was on to something. He sent for Einstein to join him at the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin, Germany. Gradually, Einstein became known in the European scientific community.

During WWI, Einstein butted heads with other imminent scientists at the Prussian Academy because they were researching and inventing lethal gas weapons of mass destruction. He considered it abominable and had no trouble telling them so. He was not very well liked.

His 1915 Theory of General Relativity was finally proven in 1919 and 1921 with the help of the distinguished English physicist, astronomer and mathematician, Arthur Eddington. It has since been proven many times.

This was a difficult undertaking because of WWI. Germany was at war with Great Britain and the scientists at Cambridge University in England, where Eddington worked, didn’t want Eddington to help prove a German’s theory, but Eddington finally convinced them to sponsor him.

The other challenge with this commitment was that Eddington had to do his experiments during the time of a total solar eclipse. These eclipses only occur worldwide about once every 18 months, they last only for 8 minutes and they had to occur in an accessible place on Earth. There was also rain and cloud cover to contend with. It was a long and difficult wait for Einstein.

Because of the apparent increasing discrimination of Jews in Germany, Einstein moved to America in 1933. He settled in Princeton, New Jersey and became part of the academia at Princeton University until his death in 1955.

Einstein was a man, because of the power of his intellect, the sheer power of his mind, was able to rise above poverty, war and strife and become one of the greatest figures in all of human history.
