Answer:

The longitudinal extent of India is 30 degrees and it takes 4 minutes for the sun to move across 1 degree of longitude during the earth's rotation. Thus the easternmost point of India would be 2 hours ahead of the westernmost point, following the local time. This difference in time might create a lot of confusion in travel arrangements and other logistical problems. To avoid this confusion a longitude passing through the midpoint of 68 degrees 7 minutes (westernmost longitude ) and 97 degrees 25 minutes (easternmost longitude ) is taken as the standard prime meridian of India. This happens to be 82 degrees 30 minutes which passes through Mirzapur in UP which is taken as the standard time of India.

1. There would be disruptions caused all over the country if the Standard Meridian is changed.

2. People would constantly remain in a dilemma as to why has the timings of the sunrise and the sunset been changed.

3. 97 degree 4' is closer to Bangladesh than the mainland of India, hence the entire country's time would now be 30 minutes ahead.
