1. The life of shifting cultivators was directly connected to the forests. So when the British brought changes in the forest laws their life was badly affected
2. The British extended their control over all the forests and declare it as the state property.
3. Some forests were classified into reserved forest.
4. In this forest people were not allowed to move freely and practice shifting cultivation. As a result many shifting cultivator had to move other areas in search of work

✔The British introduced the land settlements that is, they measured the land, define the right of each individual to the land and fixed the revenue demand for the state.

✔The settled plough cultivation was not easy in areas where water was scares and the soil was dry, so the settlement for the few cultivators was not that easy.
