"There is a hormone ‘auxin’ which is present at the shoot tip of a plant. This hormone helps the cells of the plant grow longer when placed in dark.
You will observe that when a plant is kept in sunlight, the stem bends towards it because of phototropism but the part of stem placed in the dark also grows longer.
This is because ‘auxin’ present at the tip of the stem helps the cells of the side placed in dark, to grow.
